Global Outreach Program

Our company is committed to providing access to our quality self-defense courses to communities who need them. We have a mandate to execute two volunteer trips each year, to communities in our country of Canada and around the world. In 2018 we did our first volunteer mission to Cape Town, South Africa, and it was one of the best experiences of our lives. Read our blog post about it here.

How Does It Work?

Our team reaches out to global and local non-profit/community organizations each year to establish relationships and find potential partners. We look for organizations that already work with groups of people and who can co-ordinate the workshop locations, times, and attract the participants. We require the organizations to have a facility that we can use to teach out of, and that they can provide most transportation to and from workshops. In Cape Town, we worked with an organization called African Impact.

How Do We Pay For It?

We provide these workshops completely free to non-profit organizations and participants. In working with our partner organization, we put together a budget for necessary costs for 2 instructors to travel and teach for 2-3 weeks. We do our own fundraisers here in Toronto to make this happen.

What Do We Teach?

We teach basic self-defense techniques. These include responses to the most common positions, grabs, and strikes. Our techniques come from mixed martial arts, incorporating Brazilian jiu jitsu, kickboxing, and wrestling. They are taught by a professional female MMA fighter, Gemma Sheehan, and another qualified instructor. Some examples of techniques include: how to keep a stance and move properly, how to create distance from someone, how to escape wrist and waist grabs, how to defend strikes, and how to escape when someone is on top of you on the ground.

Who Do We Teach?

We teach everyone, females and males, and all ages. We leave the decision of who we will focus on to the organization we are working with.
